Description: Professor Lloyd Minor, Dean, School of Medicine, Stanford University, and Professor Paul Yock, Founder & Director, Stanford BIODESIGN are central figures in Stanford University in the personal development and training of professionals who will lead medical innovations. When Prime Minister Abe visited Stanford University in April, 2015, Professors Minor and Yock had the opportunity to exchange their opinions with him, which heightened their interest in medical innovation in Japan. This visit to Japan is for the purpose of developing a collaborative partnership between Stanford University/Silicon Valley and Japan in human resource development, research, and industrialization. Biodesign was launched by Dr. Paul Yock and other members of Stanford University in 2001 as a development and training program for talents who will lead innovations in medical devices based on the Design-Thinking approach. If you are interested in the direction of medical innovation and future directions, you will not want to miss this event. The Biodesign program develops solutions to various problems, using the needs in the clinical site as the starting point while verifying the perspective of commercialization from the initial stages of development, and is characterized by approaches that make innovation a reality. Forty companies were started during the 14-year period, and applications for over 400 patents were filed. In addition, over 500,000 patients receive benefits from devices that were created through this program. Japan Biodesign was launched in October 2015, based on the Stanford University Biodesign program, with the goals of developing medical devices based on the needs at the clinical site, and educating and training the next generation of leaders capable of leading from identifying needs to commercialization.
